Advancement Northwest is proud to announce that Shannon Wong has been named President-Elect for the remainder of 2021. Shannon will assume the role of President of AFP Advancement Northwest in January 2022.
“I could not be more excited to serve as President of AFP’s Advancement Northwest in the coming year during a truly pivotal time in the history of our field,” Shannon said. “At a time when social justice, systemic racism and equity are a part of the conversation now more than ever before, I am excited to join each and every one of you to continue transforming the fundraising and philanthropy field to one that is rooted in racial and economic justice.”
The Board of Directors appointed Shannon in October after Maya Hemachandra elected to step down from the position. As President-Elect, Shannon will assume the role of President of AdvNW in January 2022.
Shannon is the Senior Manager of Individual Giving at the Downtown Emergency Service Center. She has more than a decade of experience in community building, nonprofit leadership, and advocacy for underserved populations.
Before her appointment, Shannon served on the Advancement Northwest Board and she serves as Co-Chair of Advancement Northwest’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access Committee. Shannon developed a love and desire to help individuals living in vulnerable populations while spending over five years volunteering for the Seattle Red Cross of King and Kitsap County and founding the state’s first Red Cross Club.
“At Advancement Northwest, I believe we have the ability to confront the challenges facing the nonprofit sector together, and navigate toward a more just and equitable future. I look forward to learning from you, elevating the voices of those who are most impacted by the nonprofit industry, and helping to train and develop nonprofit professionals who will make a difference in our community now and for generations to come!”
